Almost about food, girls' night and birthday lunch.

It's officially spring! So I display very spring-like pink tulips and I feel so good!

As I wrote about it before, I attempted to sprout avocado pits last April, and 3 of them sprouted but only on survived...

Here it is! THE avocado has grown bigger like this. Look at one leaf! it's huge now because it's spring?

And I didn't know that holly produces such pretty flowers, not only red berries in the winter.

There is pretty yellow house close to mine and a magnolia blossoms are out there. Again, it's spring! lol. Actually, cherry blossoms are everywhere too.

This is from Thursday dinner at a local Korean sushi shop. We are not dinning out all the time but the day was a bit hectic. There are so many sushi shops in Greater Vancouver but no sushi shops is owned by Japanese in our area. Should I open my sushi shop then? lol.

That was typical north american sushi roll called Washington roll. It wasn't too bad though.

And an Udon bowl was huge! with fried chicken and veggie topping. It was different but not too bad either.

Well, my main event in the weekend was a girls night held by my girl friend who live in North Vancouver. My place is far ways for hers but I couldn't miss it just for such a reason. I don't want to lose my friends! So I took kind a great effort to go there by public transportation. It was like a small trip.

I got a small community bus from right in front of my place fro 20 min to Carvolth exchange, Langley. Mountains top was still covered by snow and they were beautiful.

And then transferred a hight way express bus, took 17 min to Lougheed mall centre station in North Burnaby. A picture was form the bus on Port mann bridge across mighty Fraser river.

At Lougheed station waiting for a Sky train. People use Sky train only inside Vancouver downtown often say that it's subway, why it's called SKY train but you would know if you ride it form this area. Most of rail road is elevated.

I rid  a train from beginning to the end about 35 min and finally reached Waterfront station. And then got a sea bus there for 15 minuets ride to North Vancouver.

This pic was from Lonsdale quay. Evening light and Vancouver skyscraper silhouette over the sea were beautiful. North Vancouver is my favourite place where I commuted for more than 4 years for university.

My friend places was in a pretty condominium where has a ocean view close to Lonsdale quay.

Started with cold prosecco.

She was an amazing cook. All dishes were by her hand. Some appetizers...

And main dish, roasted pork and a cobb salad.  She offered house made dessert too but as you know, when the food is so good, I tend to forget taking pictures. So no pics of food anymore.

We had a long nice chat and a drawing game after dinner. I would share this tasty (funny) drawing form the host girl, Y who was supposed to draw Marilyn Monroe. Lol. BYW, on the left hand, a small drawing looks like a small boy on a tricycle was actually an old house wife who's going to grocery shopping. Lol.

Main event 2 was on Sunday, my dad's birthday lunch. His birthday was actually the end of Feb but my brother got flu at that time so we canceled family dinner. My brother was a bit guilty so he re-arranged family lunch on Sunday.

That was at Bistro Vrede in a new department store, Nordstrom. I haven't taken a look inside of the store well yet since then so my husband and I went there earlier for shopping some clothes. But it turned out that it's so high end! everything was so expensive! We didn't buy anything there.
( photos of shop are borrowed)

I was looking forward a lunch there because of their good reputations. The restaurant was big and bright, and urban views from big windows were also nice. I liked that! And more importantly, our dad enjoyed it so much and I appreciated that our family can get together anytime we want despite of living in a foreign country. So lucky.

My hubby and I shared a turkey clubhouse sandwich and a chicken angel hair pasta. They were so good, but according to menu, calories of sandwich was 1150 cal!

We spent time for mainly shopping after that.

and heading north shore again in the evening by car this time, to deliver stuff to the host girl of that girls night.

While we were waiting for her, we had diner at TAP & Barrel at shipyard. It was cool building used to be dockyard, so long and high. A huge window faced to ocean, and barrels were stacking.

Beer kegs were stacking the other side.

We ordered a Sashimi salad and a wild mushroom mac and cheese. They were good. An then the friend joined us there and we went to her place to deliver commission plant hanger which my husband and I made for her. She loved it and we were happy about it. I will introduce all things I made lately, include that plant hanger on next entry.  Another solid weekend!

Unusual activities on Saturday (2) - Cafes and a restaurant.

Rain has stopped finally today! Hope it's gonna be staying nice like this.

Well, from here is the continuous form previous entry, about our activities on Saturday. This entry is gonna be like a " place to visit" guide though.
The first place we went was...

It was a cozy and very original cafe owned by Japanese family on East Hastings Vancouver.

Tasty Matcha green tea latte come with real Japanese matcha tea cups.

Their home made sweets were all one bite size. We got some for my parents we were going to visit later, but we ate some of them from the box beforehand. lol.

It was an adorably tiny matcha cream sand cookie onto a tiny-tiny plate.

Gourmet Warehouse

Next place we stopped by was Gourmet Warehouse where has all kitchen/cooking gadgets and food. It was fun just looking around.

Inside of the shop from upstairs, and 2nd floor was for Le Creuset. Very colourful!

We bought salt and pepper dispensers. Pepper one was from Le Creuset.

We also stopped by Antique Market very close to Kitchen shop to search my husband furniture making parts. We didn't get anything at that time but it was still very interesting to just look around.

Callister Brewing Co.

We didn't plan for this but we found a micro brewer right next to Antique market so why not?!
Calllister Brewing Co.

They had a lot of cool paintings displayed on the wall and was so stylish.

Red stools complemented that industrial interior of the shop.

It would be a ware house before and the skylight was so effective.

JUICE WILLTS IPA

My husband and I have the same taste over beer so we shared one 12 oz glass of JUICE WILLTS IPA.  It was like as if it was a fresh grapefruits juice (without sweetness though) as well as its colour.
We are definitely coming back again!

And after we stopped by my parents' Downtown, we went to Gas town for finding a place for dinner.

Since Gas town was the oldest district of Vancouver, there were many cool, old buildings there. The building in the centre of this photo, Pub 340, was memorable one for me. I depicted this one for my art school assignment and I submitted it to our grad-show.

The Flying Pig

We tried very popular "The Flying Pig", where does't take reservations, because it was still earlier for prim time.
From my experiences, restaurants with "Pig" in their name were always good somehow. I don't know why though.

There were already many people who were waiting for their table at the time of right after 5 o'clock. However, we were just 2 of us so we could get a table on the 2nd floor right away.

Since our table was very small, all our dished we ordered were assorted into one plate to sit nicely in the middle of the table.

From left, Prawn and lobster lemon cream risotto, Sockeye salmon and garnish, Grilled brussels sprout, and Rib and macaroni. Everything was so tasty! Our beer was our favourite, Fat tug form Drift wood, Victoria.

Night at Gas town was sparking and romantic as well.

Lastly I wanted to buy some famous Caneles (French sweets) at Thierry, a popular French cafe on but it was sold out! :(  The cafe located on Alberni Street, high end district like rodeo drive, was always so busy. It opens till midnight and their sweet are extraordinary. We decided to buy some cakes to go, and had some coffee and tea there in the cafe.

I have gotten use to live in country setting, and yes, our town is so pretty and nice, but as a former urban girl, spending time like that was always makes me happy.

Unusual activities on Saturday (1) - Gem & Mineral Show

We haven't done anything for our yard yet since we moved in here, but one daffodil has suddenly popped out in the middle of the yard. It's so spring!

Too much rain!!! Sigh... Day light saving time has just started in this morning. So the time difference between here to Japan gets 1 hour shorter, 16 hours now. It's a beginning of shorter brighter nights.

♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎

Well, today's topic is about yesterday. I had some errands to do in Vancouver so we added some more nice activities in our TO DO list as well. Then our Saturday became fun and unusual day.

First of all, we went to Vancouver Gem & Mineral Show at PNE which is held 3 days in this weekend. I make hand craft jewelry with natural stones and my husband has stone fetish, lol. So the event was perfect for us.

At the entrance.

Demonstration of stone curving.

Fabulous Native Canadian art. They were very tasteful. The left one held a sturgeon. They are huge fish who live in our mighty Fraser river which runs through our town.

Thousands of raw gem stones and minerals were available.

And also tons of unique artisan jewelry were there. I could learn a lot.

If you happened to crack an ordinary looking stone, then see inside look like that, you would be so ecstatic! lol.

There was a gigantic robotic dinosaur which was roaring and moving.

They were from Yukon, northern part of Canada, demonstrated gold hunting. Look at the guy! He looked cool.

Those are natural colours of minerals. It looked unreal, however, our oil pain for artists are originally made of natural plant oil and those natural mineral pigments mix together.  I was too lazy to do that but some eco-friendly artists are still making own paints out of those minerals now. That made me think of it again.

There were many unique fossils there too.

There were not only raw stones and materials but also thousands of polished and worked precious and semi-precious stones were available there. We were just expected it as like an exhibition so I was unprepared to purchase things. When I found tons of jewelry-making materials include even chains, hooks, cords, glass beads and pearls, I was bit overwhelmed to pick right materials for my own jewelry making.

At last, here are some of stones I bought. I'm looking forward to making some jewelry out of them soon.

The stories of Saturday is continue tomorrow.
