自作の絵にフレームを作って飾る。嵐、夏は終わった？Putting my paintings. A storm, the end of summer?

去年のクリスマスマーケット用に描いた小さな絵 (10 cm x 10 cm) の売れ残りに夫がフレームを作ってくれたのでて飾りました。

I asked my husband to make frames for my small paintings (4" x4"), which are actually leftovers from last Christmas market. 

こんな感じになりました。可愛いかな？ちなみにご注文承りますよ？（笑）

さて、ちょっとブログをさぼっている内に夏は行ってしまったようで．．．
お友達のプールパーティーなどの模様も書かないでいる内に、
現在の気温１５度、雨。寒っ！
雨はいいんです。この夏、ここら辺ではあり得ない様な猛暑と干ばつが続き、給水制限で芝生などは茶色になり、山火事が深刻なレベルで起こり続けたので。
それにしても極端な！週末には大嵐がやってきました。

Well, while I was getting a bit lazy for my blog, the summer has gone!?  I haven't even written about my friend's pool party yet, but the temperature right now is 15 c and heavy rain. Chilly~~~~!!
We are okay with rain because we had lack of water for whole summer due to no rain at all. flowers and lawn were dead and wild fires were everywhere.
However, it's bit too extreme! A big storm hit metro Vancouver in past weekend.

土曜日の午前中に停電。風が吹き荒れ、時々叩き付けられる様な大雨。普段は手入れが行き届いた観光地でもある我が村はもぎ取られた枝だらけ。

お昼前にファーマーズマッケットに行ってみたら、吹き飛ばされそうなテントを下ろし、店じまいする所でした。慌ててお野菜を色々と購入。

しかし家にいても電気がないとつまらないし、Wifiもないのに携帯電話も繋がらなくなったので、電力を求めて町へ。所どころ木が倒れて道を塞いだり、電線に絡まったり、信号も止まっていたりで同じ市内の中心へ出て行くのに随分時間がかかりました。

We had no power in the village from Saturday morning. Wind was so strong and the streets were messed by tear down brunches and leaves. 

We went to see if the farmers market were running anyway. It was a bit before noon, the venders were taking down their tents and about to evacuate from the storm. We barely caught a vegetable farmer and got some of nice veggies and fruits.

After that we had nothing to do without electricity including Wifi,  and tuned out that we had even no connection of cell phone at all so headed to the city to seek power. The way to the city was very messy with big bunches and fallen down trees. It took long time to reach centre if the same city. 

消防士さんは大忙し。ここは田舎だから、と思ったら、バンクーバーのダウンタウンも含め、メトロバンクーバーの５０万世帯の電気が断たれたとか。電車も止まって大混乱。後で聞く所によれば、シアトルも大変だった模様。

Fire fighters were very busy. I though that that chaos happened because of the country side but actually 500,000 customers of BC hydro had no power in all metro Vancouver including Downtown Vancouver. Seattle seemed to have the same problem.

とは言え、ここはのどかな田舎なので、つい農家に寄って摘んだばかりのお花を買ったり（笑）。一束５ドル（５００円しませんね）なり。

ラングレーのダウンタウン問題なく通電していたので、すべてのお店も通常営業。土曜日はほぼ一日中街で過ごしました。

土曜日の夜に帰ると電気が戻っていたので、それ以来は快適に過ごせました。他の地域では日曜日の夜になっても停電もままの所が沢山あったようですね。

Though it was like that, here was still peaceful rural area, we couldn't help stopping by a flower farm to get a nice bunch of flowers.  lol.  One bunch was $5. cheep!

We spent almost all day in the heart of Langley where had power and all businesses were running normally. And when we got back to our house in the night,  the power was back for us. However, some other areas, even some part of downtown Vancouver had no power till Sunday night.

日曜日は、アーティストの個人邸で素敵なリクレームドファニチャー（中古家具をスタイリッシュに直したもの）やインテリア小物、アートなどのセールに出かけ、なかなか素敵な物をいくつか手に入れました（それはまた別の機会に紹介します）。

We went to a reclaimed furniture, and art sell at a private house on Sunday. We got some nice goods. I will introduce them later on here. 

その後、初めて行くレストランヘ。ラングレーエアポートにこんなキリシャ料理屋がありました。なかなか美味しかった。

After that we went to a restaurant in Langley airport for lunch first time. It was nice greek food.

エアポートと行ってもセスナ機ばかりですが。飛行機博物館やパイロットスクールもあるようです。

The air port was apparently for small planes. There are a pilot school and plane museum there too.

この古い飛行機が目印。なかなかカッコいいです。

This iconic old plane was beautiful! 

そして帰り道にナーサリーに寄り、室内に飾るポットとプランツを買い、（これも出来上がったら紹介しまーす！）帰路についたのでした。

And also stopped by a nursery to get some plants and a pot for interior. (I will post pictures of the when I arrange them nicely later. )

お家改装、小物編。House renovation, small things.

お家改装はいつまでも続きます（笑）。なんせ人の手を一切借りず、二人だけ、いや、夫ほぼ一人だけの作業ですからねぇ。

リビング／キッチンが奇麗になるにつれ、益々そのみすぼらしさを際立たせていたドア。このドアはいずれ丸ごと取り替えるつもりなのでお金をかけたくはないのですが、それもいつになるか分からないでの何とかしたい。そして．．．

Our house renovation is still continuing. As we, only 2...well, only my husband the most of time, is a worker for the renovation, so it would take forever. Lol.

Anyways, since our riving room/ kitchen area is becoming clean looking, the old ugly door even more stands out. However, we plan to exchange whole door in the future when we add some space there. So we don't want to spend money on it. On the other hand we know that cosmetic of door is very effective to the entire of ambience so...

こうなりました！まるで舞台装置のそうなハリボテチック、１日でしあがりましたが、お部屋の雰囲気は雲泥の差になりました。

We found a solution like this and made it in one day! It was kind like instant procedure, like faux as just covered it by ply wood though, but the atmosphere improved a lot. 

その行程は左からこんな感じに。私のお仕事はもちろんペイントです。

そしてエリアラグ。ずいぶん長い事かかりましたがやっと完成。

サイズや色にこだわりがあると、探しまわるより作った方が早いかと。いえ、ちっともは早くなんかなかったんですけど欲しいものに近いものは確実に得られるかと。

And an area rug. It took so long time to finish. 

When you have very specific colour and size/shape preference, it would be faster to make it by yourself than looking around every shops. Well, it turned out that was not so faster, lol. Anyways, One things for sure is that you can end up getting what you wanted, I guess.

材料は手芸屋で柔らかいパイピング様のコットンロープの様なコードを２０mくらい買い、手持ちの毛糸やコットンの糸でぐるぐると渦巻きに鍵編み。

I bought soft, thick cotton-ish cord for piping for 20m, and used left over yarns to crochet it spiral.

いつもの様に、レシピもなく適当に始めるので、何度もほどいてはやり直しになります。最初はこんなでしたが、このままだと欲しい楕円形にはならず、限りなく円に近づく事が分かり、もっと大きくなってからほどく事２回。

As well as I had no recipe of it so I had to learn by trial and error. The first attempt turned out that  was too round. I realized it when it became much bigger than the picture. 

そしてもっと細長く始めて．．．

So started over again with much longer shape...

ようやく（ほぼ）狙っていた形になりました。手作りの良さは、例えばこれは、クッションカバーとの同じ材料の使い回しでお揃い感が出る事。お部屋の色味の統一はあか抜けさせるこつです。

And finally became almost exact shape that I wanted to. The best part of hand made like this is that you can use the same materials with others, like pillow covers or so, to get matching colours. When  you manage to stick with your colour scheme through the house, it would become very sophisticated.

そしてこれ。トップの分厚い一枚板は、前の家で暖炉のマントルを作るとき、夫の従兄弟がわざわざ自分の敷地から切り出して来てくれて、家具職人の我が弟が生木から仕上げてくれた物。こんな分厚く良い木を買ったらとても高いものだと思います。なので、一緒に持て来ました。（前の家には似た色合いの板で、箱の様に同じサイズのマントルを作り、設置してきました。）

The top shelf of it was a mantle of a fire-place in our former house. When we had fire-place makeover there, my hubby's cousin cut the tree form his property and gave it to us. And my brother who is a furniture maker finished it up from raw material. If you bought this tick of nice wood,  it would be very pricy. We didn't want to give up on it so we made similar one (like a box) for that fire place when we moved out that house. 

この家には暖炉がないので（そのかわりに鉄のストーブ）飾り棚として使うべく、夫が下の部分を作りました。この白い鉄格子はガーデンショップで買ったフェンスです。

ちなみに上に乗っている小さなお家も夫作です。本当はバードハウスとして作ったはずですが、外に置くのがもったいなくなったようです。

Since we have no fire-place in this house (we have a nice iron-ish stove), we made it into a display shelf. That white part is a iron fence for gardening. By the way, a small house on top of the shelf is also made by my husband. He made it as a bird house but he feels it too good to put outside. 

ちょっとづつですが、お家が整って行くのは本当に楽しいものです。

It's so slow but we really enjoy making our house nicer and nicer day by day.

最近作ったジュエリー。シルバーをあっと言う間に奇麗にする方法。My latest handmade jewelry. How to clean silver at no time.

最近、お家改装にかまけてあまり他の物を作っていなかったので、ここでちょっくら。

これはまだ改良の余地ありですが、薄いブルーのコットンでかぎ編みのネックレス。

I have been into our house renovation for a while and was like of forgetting jewelry making. So I tried some. A pale blue cotton crochet necklace. This is the first attempt of tear drop shape and It should be improve better though. 

意外と大きめですが、とても軽くて夏っぽいかな、と。

It became bigger than I pictured but it's light like a feather. Looks summerly. 

そしてこちらも夏らしいピアス。白やクリスタルは何にでも良く合って便利ですよね。

And two pairs of earrings. They are also summery. White and crystal are easy to coordinate, right?

さて、シルバーは置いておくと黒ずんできますよね。私はシルバー磨きのクロスを使っていましたが、意外と時間がかかるのと、チェーンなどの細かい所まで行き届きません。

Silver things would be dingy by oxidation. I used to use a silver polishing cloth to clean them but it took some time and difficult to clean small parts. 

この様になってしまったシルバーのバングル。

（ちなみにネイティブカナディアンの作品です。）

My Native Canadian's bangles was dingy like that. 

ベーキングソーダに水を垂らして手の中で軽く揉む様にすると、あっという間に輝きを取り戻します。上記のネックレスのチェーンも、実は黒くなっていた余り物なのですが、同じくベーキングソーダで揉む様に磨いたら数秒でピカピカです。ベーキングソーダは万能で、マウスウォッシュを作れば虫歯知らずの白い歯になるし、お掃除にも匂い消しにも使えるし、本当に便利ですよ。マウスウォッシュには食用の物を使ってください。

I polished them with baking soda and drips of water in my hands,  and rubbed then few seconds. Result of it was above! It was so easy.  A chain above with the crochet necklace was also darken by time but I rubbed it with baking soda for less than 10 seconds and washed away. It became shiny as brand new chain. Baking soda is such a versatile thing. I use is as my mouth-wash to keep my teeth white, fresh breath, and cavity prevention. I can use it as kitchen deodorant and as cleaner too. How convenient! If you use it as mouth-wash, you better use food quality one. I buy organic one.

さて、なぜか今になってまた苺が全開！いままではまるでブルーベリーの様な小さな実しか付かなかったのですが、今回のは皆標準サイズ。気温のせいでしょうか。

Well, our strawberry suddenly regain again now! They are 3 year-old since we planted and they had produced only tiny berries like blueberry size before. However, now they stated to give us a lot of  proper size of berries. I thought that the season for them was gone though. Is that because of this unusual climate in this summer?

数日前の夕焼け。ここの所また３０度超えて暑いです。

美しい海辺のひと時。One beautiful evening at the seaside town, White Rock.

金曜日の事。土曜日は夫がお友達と遊びに行く事になっていたので、金曜日のダイナウトをおねだり。予約もなしにきままにホワイトロックへ。私達がかつて住んでいた隣町の海添いのエリア。

On Friday evening, we wenn to White Rock where the seaside town in the next city from us. It was spontaneous decision so we din't have any reservation though. 

お天気も良かったのでマリーンドライブに立ち並ぶレストランのパティオはどこも一杯の様子。でも運良くこんなファンキーなレストランのテーブルをゲット。

Charlie Don't Surf という変な名前のレストラン。

The weather was fabulous so it seemed like all restaurants' patios were packed alone Marin drive.  However, we luckily got a patio table in this funky restaurant called Charlie Don't Surf -funny name!-.

私達のテーブルはこんな細いパティオに。この通りのレストランにはどこも同じ様なパティオがあります。カナダでは外で食事が当たり前ですね。

All restaurants on the street have this this kind of narrow patio there. Dinning outside is very common in Canada.

食事後にピアへお散歩に。刻々と変わりゆく夏の景色を楽しみに。

Took a walk to the pier after dinner to enjoy the view which was changing by the minute. 

日が暮れるとカモメが沢山水に浮き始めました。こうやって眠るのでしょうか。

After sunset I found that a bunch of sea gulls started landing on the water. I wondered if they sleep like that? 

車に乗り込む前にアイスクリーム（笑）。シングルスクープでこの大きさ。メニューにあったトリプルスクープを頼んだらどんな大変な事になるやら。

ある美しい夏の夕方のお話でした。

Before we got back to our car, we stopped for ice cream. This big one was a single scoop! There was double and triple scoops on the menu so I wanted to see how triple scoops look like. lol.

It was an ordinary yet so beautiful summer evening.

田舎生活、ロングウィークエンドにした事。Country life. Long weekend.

今日はまた突然に気温が下がり雨模様。もうすぐ３時の時点で１５度です。なんとも極端ですが、これぞBCのお天気。

It's so cool today! The temperature suddenly dropped to 15 degrees. It's bit too extreme but it's also typical BC weather.

さて、何気ない田舎ライフの模様を少し。基本的にBCデーのロンクエィークエンド、土曜日と月曜日にした事あれこれ。日曜日は弟の家で友人が沢山集まって長いパーティーをしていました。楽しすぎたのか何も写真を撮っていない．．．（笑）久しぶりに会えた友達もいて楽しかった！

Well, I'm going to write about ordinary days of my country life , basically what we did on Sat and Mon in the long weekend of BC day. 

We went to my brother's place for the house party on Sun. It was so much fun so even made me forget to talk any picture...lol. It was great to catch up with bunch of friends! 

田舎生活と言えば．．．上の景色を見た時は、夫と思わず、カントリーロード♪と歌ってしまいました。

Speaking of country life, when we drove through a place like that, we couldn't help singing

 "Country roaaaaad~ take me hooooome~♪" lol.

土曜日の朝は、

In the Saturday morning...

近所のファームに自転車で卵を買いに。

We went to buy some eggs to nearby farm by bicycles.

可愛い！あ、ちなみに卵はこのひとの物ではありませんよ（笑）。

So cute! But eggs were not form this guy. lol

その帰りにファーマーズマーケットに寄って、安くて新鮮なオーガニック野菜を買って喜び、

We also stopped by a farmers market to get some fresh organic veggies on the way back,

また出て行って、可愛いくもすごくセンスの良いお花屋さんで花を買い、

And went out again for the flowers. We have a very fashionable florist in the village.

月曜日は、

On Monday...

通りかかったアートギャラリーではアーティストの方達がデモンストレーションと展示会をやっていたので、見に行き（あぁ、仲間に入りたい！）、

We walked by the art gallery where held an art event. Many local artists showed their works. (I want to be a part someday!)

そしてカントリーガールのマストアイテムのカウガールハットを買いました。

田舎だけど、この小さな村には素敵なお店が何件かあるんです。この帽子屋さんもその一つ。

And stopped by a cool hat shop to get this. A must item for country life? lol. A cow-girl hat for myself! Here is very small country village but we have some very sophisticated/fashionable shops. 

夕方になってから、突き当たりに開ける景色を楽しみに、お気に入りのトレールを自転車で走り、びっくり！川なんだけど、こんなに潮が引いていて、大きなビーチが出現！

We went for biking to our favourite trail in the evening. The end of the trail is always breathtaking. However,

前回言った時が右側の写真。景気が随分違います。

Look at this difference! Left pic was the day and right was before. I didn't know that the tide can be this big difference in the river too. Big beach showed up. 

カナダギースが泳ぎだします。

Canada geese were about swim away.

そしてこの素晴らしい景色を独り占めする様な豪邸。ホテルみたいです。個人邸でこれはすごい！

８時くらいになり、

And this river side mansion where has the magnificent river view exclusively! I wonder if it was a hotel? Too gorgeous for a private house?? 

これから夕食を作るのがちょっと面倒くさくなって（笑）、途中のパブに寄り道。自転車でパブに行くなんてこの村に来るまではなかった事。その帰りにいつもの橋で夕焼けをパチリ。

Around 8, we felt, well, I felt bit too much trouble to cook at that time in the night of the end of the long weekend, lol, so we stopped by a pub for dinner. I had never been to pubs by bicycle before I moved to this village. Then took a picture of sunset as well before we go back home. 

お隣のマダムが下さったオーガニック、ラベンダーレモネード。美味し〜い！

何て事はない休日の過ごし方ですが、何でも楽しがれば幸せになるんです。

This is an organic lavender lemonade syrup which is given by the lady next door. Very tasty.

Even a day (days) was (were) nothing special but as long as you appreciate every single small happenings you would be just happy.
