バレンタインズデー、春？そしてジュエリー制作。Valentaine's day, spring has come?, and Jewelry making.

春うらら！っと思ったら、昨夜はまた雪が降りました。是非これで最後にして頂きたい！

現在、義理母滞在中。特にコメントなし（笑）。家の狭さを実感、とだけ言いましょうか。

さて、今回は脈絡なく行きます。都会と田舎と色々と。

まずはバレンタインデーの事。

I thought that the spring has come once but it was snowing last night...that has to be the last one in this year, please!!!

This entry is random, about a city and a countryside, and starting with Valentine's day.

お花とカードはお約束ですね。北米は男性から女性に、が一般的ですが、私も小さなオモチャ（笑）とカードは夫に差し上げましたよ。お花の種類は私のリクエストで。流石にもう菊の花束は買って来なくなりましたが（笑）、一応ね。ラナンキュラスです。

Flowers and card would be must items for girls. So my husband gave these flower to me by my request. He has stopped to buy me Chrysanthemum which is typical FUNERAL flowers in Japan, lol, but he still needs a suggestion to get right ones for me? lol. Ranunculus.

ディナーは最近のブリューイングレストラン、トレーディングポストへ。この日は特別なコースとオリジナルビールのマッチングディナーでした。ミュージシャンの生演奏付き。

私は、最愛の我が亡き猫ニコの写真入りのハートのロケットを付けて行きました。

Trading Post Brewing

We went for dinner to nearby brewing restaurant becouse they had special beer matching course menu at that night. A nice musician was there too. I wore a heart shaped locket where my beloved kitty picture is in.

いつものパブっぽいメニューとは全く違ってとてもユニークかつ美味しいコースでちょっと感動。これらのディッシュもレギュラーメニューに加えて欲しいなぁ。

It was so good and was totally different from they regular pub-ish menu. I want them in the regular menu from now on.

バンクーバーダウンタウンの写真を少し。私の古巣です。やっぱりいいなぁ。

Here are some random pictures from Vancouver where I still miss a lot. 

何でもない街中の風景ですが、夕日がきれいだったので。

It was nothing special but colours of sky in the evening. Beautiful!

これは両親の住む４０階の部屋からパノラマで撮ってみました。雲がユニークだったのでね。バンクーバーは美しい街だなぁ、と何時見ても思います。海と山、そして洗練された都会の風景。

This one is the view from my parent’ room on the 40th floor. I saw unique cloud hover over inlet. I have never been, I will never be tired of  beauty of Vancouver. 

バンクーバーのイーストサイドに建つこの大きなインスタレーションはもう有名ですが、これ、私の先生の作品なんです。キャピラノ大学のスタジオアートで彼の絵のコースを２年続けて取っていました。とてもユニークなおじ様です（笑）。彼の絵もとても美しいんですよ。

Marcus Bowcott

This huge art installation in East Vancouver is already famous but actually is created by one of my respectable teachers at the university. When I was in Studio Art in Capilano U,  I took his painting courses for 2 years straight. His paintings are also so beautiful!

そして久々のグランビルアイランドのサンドバーへお友達とディナーへ。

And we got together with some friends at The Sandbar in Granville island the other night.

初めてバンクーバーの両親を訪ねた1995年に連れて来てもらって以来、何度も訪れたアイコニックなシーフードレストランは未だに健在です。この夜は、お友達の新しい、遠距離恋愛なボーイフレンドを紹介してもらうために何人かで集って、プレバレンタインディナーみたいな感じでした。例に寄って、女性陣はチビ日本人達で、男性人は皆とっても背の高い白人、というハイコントラストでキュートな私達（笑）。（写真はお借りしました。）

Since my parents took me there first time in 1995, It becomes one of my memorable, favourite places. I'm glad it's still there lively. It was for kind of pre-valentine's dinner with friends because one of my friend's very new boyfriend was visiting her from California for Valentine's day. We were a cute group of the high contrast as super tall white boys and tiny Japanese girls. lol.

例によって食べる事に夢中で全然写真を撮っていない！（苦笑）。これは前菜に頼んだシュリンプカクテル。エビのあまりの大きさに驚いて写真を撮ったので、唯一これだけ載せておきます。プリップリ！この後メインにその日に入荷されている新鮮なお魚のメニューからソードフィシュを頂きました。すんごく美味しかった！

Because I forgot to take pictures of all beautiful dishes as well, -too excited to eat! lol- I had only picture of our appetizer, a prawn cocktail, which was surprisingly huge to make me take a picture of. 

Everything tasted amazing.

こちらもバンクーバーダウンタウンですが、フェアモントパシシックリムホテルで２月末まで行われているJapan Unlayered というイベントを見に行き、そこで和菓子とほうじ茶のセットを頂きました。メインの目的は無印良品のポップアッポショップだったのですが、それ自体は小さすぎて何とも。でもMUJIの大きなお店が２店舗、今年の冬、バンクーバーにオープする事が決まったそうで、あ、それならいいや！と。いや、和菓子がおいしかったので良しとします。

Another day in Vancouver in Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, we had very nice Japanese tea and sweet sets, which was a part of the event called Japan Unlayered. (till the end of Feb.) My main interest of the event was to see a Muji pop up shop. The brand is very popular in Japan and in some other countries. That pop up shop was too small and not wowed me as I expected. However it's okay because they have announced that are going to bring two big, non-temporally shops in Vancouver in this winter. And a Japanese sweet satisfied me anyway.

最近作ったジュエリー。こちらはご注文品。このブルーめのうは紐で繋げられているものをまとめて買ったので、これ以前すでに４つ違うデザインのネックレスをお出ししました。今回、また違うデザインを考えていたとき、横に使ってみようと思い付き．．．穴が縦にあけられているので当たり前のように縦のセッティングばかり考えていたのです。結構お気に入り。

Some jewelry I made lately.

That One was for a commission. I already used 4 same stones in deferent design. In this time I came up with the idea that setting a stone horizontally even they have holes through vertically. I liked the result. 

自分の普段使いよう。フックではなくてステイオンのタイプをやって見たくなりました。そしてこの色。裏にピンをセットした上のビースは意外な使い方だと思います。

They are for my daily use. I like using materials differently from the original way that it should be used. 

これはもう本当にシンプルで、でもちょっとエレガントだと良いな、と思ってただ小さな淡水パールをセットしました。長いボールチェーンを２重巻きで付けます。

Just a simple set of tiny pure water pearls. I aimed this for causal yet elegant looking to wear. 

前回のエントリーに、お顔を考え中と載せたこの子はこうなって、無事にベビーへのギフトになるべく旅立ちました。

I potes it on a previous entry while I was thinking of a face. It was done like that and sole as a someone's baby shower gift.

２つ目のあみぐるみはウサギさん。嬉しい事に、すでに可愛い女の子の腕の中で一緒に眠っている様です。

The second crochet stuffing animal was rabbit. I heard that it has already been in a cute young girl's arms and been sleeping together with. I'm so happy about it.

最近作ったジュエリー、進行中の編みぐるみ。My latest handmade jewelry and progressing crochet stuffing animals.

昨日から雨が降り続いています。

この辺りとしては滅多にないカナダの様な（笑）冬は過過ぎ去ったようですね。典型的なパシフィックノースウエストなお天気に戻りました。良い様な悲しいような．．．

It's been raining from yesterday. It seems like that the extremely cold, unusual Canada like winter is fading here. Welcome back rainy days, the typical pacific northwest weather. Is that good or what?

さて、ここの所、自分の作品の事を書いていなかったので、年末から今年に掛けて作った物を少し。

Well, I haven't talked about my pieces for a while so here are some. 

前に作った緑色の石のネックレスを見て下さった方からのご注文で「同じ様な感じ」と。天然石の場合、私はいつものお気に入りのお店で、時間をかけて変わった色や良い形の石を探してくるので、後のオーダーで「同じ物」と言われると困る事が多々あります。今回はたまたま全く違う味わいの緑色の石をお見せしたらとても気に入ってくださってほっとしました。しかしまた同じ色味の天然石をピアス用に探して合わせるのに一苦労。結果は喜んで頂けたので良かったです。私っぽくない？（笑）可愛らしいデザインで。

I made one necklace with a clear green stone before and now another person asked me to make the similar one for her. I was happy but a problem is that it's often difficult to find a same colour of stone when it comes to natural earth stones. I showed her a stone in green that was totally different but equally unique. Fortunately she liked it so I made one of the kind for her. It was also difficult to find the same coloured small stones for the set of earrings. I made them somehow and she liked them. 

このデザインは、以前オンラインで見たものからヒントを得て自分なりのアレンジで作ってみた所、再度別の方からオーダーを頂きました。ワイヤーの細かいひねりや渦巻きはその場で作って行くので、２つと同じ物は出来ないと思います。だからイヤリングを左右そろえるのが大変！（笑）。

I saw this kind of design online sometime before and I was inspired and arranged it on my own. My friend asked me to make them for her so I did it again. However, I usually twist and swirl wires for the detail, like a improvisation, in progress, so every time cannot be the exactly same, which is good. On the other hand, with the nature of it, I had to straggle to make pair of earrings the fairy same to each other. 

これは以前イヤリングとして作って差し上げたものをネックレスバージョンで再度ご注文頂いたもの。お母様へのプレゼントの用だそうです。

I made this design as earrings before and I got the order it as a necklace in this time for her mother. 

これは手持ちの使わずにいた石をやっとネックレスに仕立てたもの。今の所自分用で。もう一つ同じ様な石があるので、そちらも何とかしないと。

This one was to just use the stone which I have had for a long time. It's mine so far. I have one more same kind of stone so I will make different design with that soon. 

左のをお友達のお見舞い用に最初に作りました。彼女に似合うと思い、個性のある少し薄茶が入ったブルーアガットに茶色の小さい石を添えて。右のは心優しい男性が「妻と娘に」と言ってクリスマス前にオーダー下さったもの。この２つはきれいな水色と白だけだったので、磨りガラスの形違いのビーズを添えました。石には色々な表情があって楽しいのです。

I made one on the left to cheer my friend before. And this time, on the right was ordered by a sweet guy for his wife and his daughter for Christmas gifts. I picked different beads which were suitable for each unique blue agates. Since they were natural, colours and patterns were always individual.  

いつもオーダーしてくださる方へのクリスマスプレゼント。お好きな色だけ聞いて、沢山ある手持ちのビーズの中から選んで作りました。ちょっと美味しそうかも。

It was for a Christmas gift from me to a customer often uses my serves. I just asked her of her favourite colours and picked right beads from my collection to make. Don't they look yummy? 

これは自分の普段用。結構使えるんです。サイズもこんな感じ。色んな色で作って持ってたら便利かも。

They are just simple, good to everyday uses type of earrings for myself. If you have a bunch of these in different colours that would be useful! 

そしてここからは今やっているプロジェクト。編みぐるみです。

From now on,  the pictures are in progress projects on mine. 

途中経過。これはアクリル毛糸で。

Process photo of an Amigurumi, a crochet stuffed animal. 

出来上がり。まだ試行錯誤中ですが、目指す所は甘過ぎない可愛いシック．．．（笑）猫のつもりでしたが耳のセッティングがちょっと違うかも。顔が難しいんです（私は目なしも以外に委員じゃないかと思うんですが）。写真をFBのプライベートの方にアップしたとたん驚く事に買い手が現れました。そして大半の意見は目が欲しいと。なので、これの目はその方のお好みで作る事に。

Done for one. I'm still exploring the right way to go, like not too cute, may be sweet and chic...lol. It was supposed to be a cat but the ears setting was a bit off? Making right face was even more difficult so I posted the pic of it like that on my private FB.  And  soon after that someone offered me to buy it! So I will go with its eyes as her preference. 

この２つの顔の候補をお見せしたら、赤ちゃん用のギフト（ベビーシャワーの）なのでボタンは止めて、でも刺繍で丸い目を作る事になりました。そして何と、２つ目を別の方が違う色のウサギさんバーションでオーダー下さいました。ありがたい事です。

I showed her two possibilities of the face and She picked round eyes with embroidery instead of buttons because they wouldn't be good for a new born baby. And surprisingly another person asked me to make a second one in different colour as a rabbit for her daughter. I'm so grateful. 

そしてこれも試作の途中ですが、そもそも目的はこれなんです。手間がかかる話しなんですが、ウールを使いカギ編みでパーツをつくり、それを洗ってフェルト化して、綿を詰めてから縫い合わせて、出きればニードルフェルトでニュアンスを付けて．．．という編みぐるみ。さらに大人っぽい感じを目指して。上の写真はフェルト化した頭と耳。下の写真の赤が入っている胴体と腕はまだ編んだままです。さてどうなる事やら。楽しみです。

And another thing in progress. I originally planed to make a stuffed animal which involve a long process -crochet wool for parts, wash them to felt, stuff and sew, and needle-felting for a nuance...-. I'm aiming to make this toy as not really toy-ish looking. lol. Upper pic is felted head and ears, and in lower pic, red body and arms are not washed yet. I'm excited! will see!

年末、年越し、そして新年。The end of a year and the beginning of a year

時が経つのは早い物で、あっという間にもう新年も４日目。

遅ればせながら明けましておめでとうございます。

さて、クリスマスからお正月までの事を少し。

Time flashes by...It's been already 4th day of the new year!  Happy new year everyone!  

Here is a bit about my activities in the yearend and new year's day.

クリスマスマーケットはやはりクリスマス前に行きたい、とぎりぎりで行って来ました。今回からもっと広い敷地に移ったマーケット、海際なので寒かった！そして凄い混雑。

写真右下のベルギーチョコレートのお店、形が錆びた工具！夫は喜んで、同じガレージで働くメカニックの同僚のプレセント用にいくつか買いました。良いアイディアです。

We went to the Christmas market right before Christmas. It moved to bigger and seaside location in this time. So it was even busier and chillier! The right bottom of the picture was a unique belgian chocolate shop. The shapes of their chocolates were mostly like rustic tools so my husband, as a car mechanic, liked them and got some for christmas gifts for his co-workers. Good idea!

そしてクリスマスは毎年恒例、家族の持ち寄りディナーです。今年はバンクーバーダウンタウンの両親のコンドで。弟家族、弟の妻の兄家族、両親、友人１名、と私達の総勢１４人のパーティーでした。

On the Christmas eve, our family got together at my parents' in Vancouver downtown. Members were my brother's family, my brother's wife's brother's family, my parents, one friend and us, total 14. 

私はターキーのラグーパスタと苺チーズクリームのバントケーキを作りました。今年も楽しいパーティーでした。ありがたや、です。

What I cooed was turkey-ragu-pasta and a strawberry cheese cream bundt cake. It was a good party as well. Very thankful!

クリスマスイブとクリスマスは晴れだったのに、前日の２３日と２６日は雪。今年は本当に良く降ります。私のホームオフィスからの景色も更に白い。

This winter is unusually snowy. Actually, Christmas eve and Christmas day were very sunny but 23rd and 26th were snowing! My window view on 26th was whiter.

小さな我が家も山の中のキャビンの様です。

Our small house was like a mountain cabin.

そして３０日は弟の家で餅つきパーティー。カナダ人の夫は初めてのお餅つき。

臼と杵も弟作。流石、家具職人です。

And on 30th. My sisters-in -law planed a big Mochi (Japanese sticky rice cake) pounding party at my brother's house. My very Canadian husband experienced it first time. Even the wooden millet and the mortar were made by my brother. His is a furniture maker so...

１日中、７〜８回は突いていたでしょうか。突き立てのお餅を色々なタレで。私は小豆入り抹茶ババロアを作って行きました。大勢の人が美味しいもの一杯持ってやって来て、それは楽しいパーティーでした。食べ過ぎでしょ。

They steamed sticky rice and pounded it into Mochi 7 or 8 times all day long. And put variety of sauce on top of them. Fresh Mochi tasted amazing. I brought a Matcha-green tea and sweet aduki bean paste bavarian cream dessert. So many people attended the party with a lot of delicious food so We all ate too much!

３１日。またしても雪。近所のお気に入りでカフェ納め。
夜には友人宅でのカウントダウンパーティーに出かけるはずでしたが、降り止まぬ大雪の為に断念。

On 31st, snow was falling again. We went a neighbour cafe the last time in the year. We are supposed to go to a friend couple's place to have a countdown party together but we couldn't make it due to the heavy snow.

代わりに、家から歩いて１分以内に行ける近場のクラフトビールのお店で年越し。ミュージシャンの生演奏もあり、年明け前には特性のカクテルも配られ、皆と乾杯。それなりに良かったです。でも飲みすぎ！（笑）

Instead of it, we went to a very near craft beer restaurant for countdown. A good musician was there and the restaurant served everyone a nice cocktail the moment of countdown,  and we greeted each other so it was also good time. However, we drank a bit too much. lol. 

そして明けました、２０１７。弟の家で、義理妹とその義理姉が作ってくれた、豪華なお正月料理を頂きました。出来た（義理）妹達が家族に居てくれてなんてラッキーなんでしょ！因に、弟の家の居間には畳が敷いてあって、その上に大きなこたつがあります。まさに日本のお正月仕様。その中では唯一の純カナダ人（子供達の国籍はカナダですが）の夫は初めての本式のおせち料理を堪能。（そう言うと私がちゃんとしないのがバレちゃいますが）

The New Year's day of 2017. We were invited to my brother's place again to have Japanese traditional  new year's feast. My stinters-in-law cooked them all as well! How lucky I am to have such excellent people in my family! By the way, my brother's living room is Japanese style with some tatami mats and Kotatsu-heated law table with blanket covered-, so we could feel very Japanese new year's atmosphere there. My husband had those special Japanese feast first time as well. 

弟から「来るなら子供達が期待してるからね〜」と言われ、慌てて手持ちの紙でポチ袋を作りました。お年玉なんてシステムを忘れていたよ！笑

My brother told me that I'd better to bring Otoshidama- Japanese new year's tradition of giving money to children-, with me because kids were expecting. I instantly made the small traditional envelopes for that. I totally forgot about that tradition! lol.

因に畳とこたつの脇にはこの薪ストーブ。ここはやっぱりカナダです。なかなかカッコいい。 

Even having a Japanes Kotatu table there, there was also nice wood burning stove beside. That's so Canada. 

今更ですが、せっかくクリスマスとニューイヤーのグリーティングを作ったので．．．（両方ともごく近所で撮った写真）

I made the season getting cards for Christmas and New year so here they are. Photos on them were form our beloved small village.

今年は更に、過去から解放され、既成概念から自由になり、創造的でユニークな人であり、そして自分と周りをこよなく愛したいと思います。そして誰かを助けられる人でありたい。皆様方に於かれましても幸多き１年でありますように！本年も宜しくお願い申し上げます。

My new year resolution is that trying to be free from my past, being free from stereotypical thinkings,  being more creative, being unique,  and loving others and myself more. Moreover, I would like to be more capable to help others. I wish you a wonderful, happy year too.
