Canada day, museums, fireworks at friend's.

It was July 1st, Canada day, we started to celebrate it in, of course Fort Langley where the oldest town in West Canada. Villagers favourite cafe Wendels 's flower baskets and flags were so Canada! There were some Canada day events happened so the town was busy. We went to some museums where were admission free for the day.

Farm museum at first.

There were a lot of farm related tools, gadgets, machines there.

My husband were originally from a farm in Alberta so he enjoyed it a lot but I, who grew up in Tokyo had almost no idea and not familiar at all with those things. One thing I was very impressed about was the design and form of old machines. They were even for farms and industrial but still so beautiful.

Some old appliances were displayed upstairs. Look at the beauty of the stove!

Even laundry machine was cute. It was a bit like R2D2? lol.

Next we went was Centennial Museum.

I previously wrote about the national historic site as well so Fort Langley was establish 1872 as the first town in West Canada. The museum introduced the way people lived the then.

This one was a general shop, kind of like London drugs or Shoppers drug mart now? lol. There was even a post office in the conner, the asme as we have now in the stores.

They had every things form candies to table cloth and kitchen gadgets all together.

We have a lot of extraordinarily huge trees in our rain forest in BC, didn't we?  Those trees were were cut down due to construction of the town back then.

♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎

After that we went for shopping, then heading to my friend's in North Vancouver for Canada day fireworks party. 3 of us,  Japanese girls at the party, came to Canada the same year in 2005. We've been here for 10 years! So celebrated 10th Canada day together with them were so meaningful.

Vancouver downtown would be too busy at that day and night so watching fireworks form North shore was a good idea. The view of downtown the other side of ocean from her balcony was fantastic. My iPhone camera zoom wasn't good enough to capture the beauty of night view and fireworks so I put a couple of small pics. lol.

My regret as well is that forgot taking pictures of her fabulous food again! lol. I say it again but when it comes to delicious food I simply forget everything but eating, even my camera is sitting right there! lol. I'm a bad blogger. Her condo room was beautiful as well.  We had very good time together.

Hot day! Friend came form USA. Fort. Paw bracelet again.

It's been so hot here in south west BC Canada. Right now, it's 31 C here. Humidity is not too bad so you, Japanese people or central Canadians would laugh at me if I complain too much about that. However, This area usually has not so much temperature deference between winter and summer, such as 5C in winter and 26 C in summer, compare to inner Canada such as -30C in winter and 35C in summer. So we don't get use ton it and usually not have air conditioner in the house. And more over our house's roof is tin and insolation is thin. Ahhhh so hot!

Hoever, bright side of it is good fruits! Raspberries in our common yard of the complex has a lot of berries and they were so sweet! Can't help pick them often secretly. lol

♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎

My friend couple visited us on Saturday, the hottest day so far. It was 32C so she complained "Canada is supposed to be cooler!" but she was from Washington and was just about 2 hours away from here! LOL!! The perception toward CANADA is such a thing. lol.

Despite of the hear wave, we went to Krause berry farm for wine and more. I wrote about it before but the day almost no people were in the berry fields. Too hot to do U-Pick. Inside of the building was packed as well. We got there famous berry pie, that time availability was mixed berries' one, as well as red currants and gooseberries. The harvest season was about to switch for strawberry to for raspberry following by blueberry very soon.

well, my friends' request was to stay around our place instead of going to busy Vancouver, so we went to national historic site next. It was just 10 min on foot form our house but we had never been there. Itv was a good opportunity to go.

Fort Langley was established in early 1800's as a first town in British Colombia. There were original village preserved in Fraser river site surrounded by fort.

On top of the fort.

This was a way of a blacksmith in 1800's. She wore layers of thick old costume and showing people how to hit a burning iron right in front of open fire. It was 32 C then! Unbelievable!!

My husband was trying to get a gold dust in the water. Boys there said that that found one. Really? lol.

Anyways, it was too hot to stay there too long so we moved to a restaurant patio for cold drinks. It was a watermelon mojito. Actually, onsite of restaurant was cooler than the patio seats though.

♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎

The friend ordered me for her paw bracelet and the same collar for her kitty. Thank you!

Seasonal vegetables and flowers.

Hydrangeas are getting vivider day by day. In Japan, the flower represent the season of rain but here the flower seems to relate strong summer sun-shine. It's been very hot here for a couple of days. Yesterday was 32 C at the peak. I felt like melting. I'm no longer Tokyo girl because I complained a lot of temperature of just over 30 degrees?? lol.

I don't know the name of the pretty flowers next to the hydrangeas.

Few days ago, I heard a voice calling me at our yard so I peeked out of my head, it turned out of the lady behind us. She stood there with both hands full of rhubarbs and lettuces from her yard. The way she look with huge rhubarb was a bit comical though. lol. And she gave them to me! The most beautiful rhubarb I've ever seen.

At the night I decided to make some rhubarb and mix berries crisp. Bake them also in the small containers to deliver them the neighbour who gave us the rhubarbs. I liked that kind of nice interaction with my neighbours.

So the lettuces form her became delicious salad.

The shiso herb plat, form my friend, has grown bigger now so I picked some leaves and put them into pork chops with cheese and pan grilled them for diner. It was so good!

My husband bought it at a super market. I didn't eat those edible wild plants in Japan at all so I didn't even know how to cook. Then I abandoned them for few days in the fridge.

Shouldn't waste them which is available only in a short time of the year, so I finally search how to cook. It's called Kogomi in Japanese and Fiddleheads here in Canada. They got a bit browning but I washed them well and steamed for 15 min according direction.

Then I sautéed them with butter and lemon juice for a couple of min.
They tasted like somewhere between asparagus and green bean and I liked it.

♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎

My young cousin in Japan is getting married soon in July. I won't be able to attend her wedding but my parents are going to. So I left some gifts for her on my parents. one of them is my handmade necklace which is made with a pink quartz. It's a love charm for her happy marriage life forever.

Picnic with a neigbour. Sunset of summer solstice. Things we made.

We have so much to do inside of our house so the yard is untouched yet. Wanted at least one flower basket for this summer. I'm happy.

It was perfect weather on Sunday. A lady from our next door called us for a picnic. Around 4, we sat on the table she set in the outside across our 2 houses. We had very good time chatting together. We are so lucky to have such a nice neighbour.

So our dinner was pushed back because of that spontaneous picnic so we were cleaning after dinner around 9. I realized that that was summer solstice so I thought we should go to the river to see what time exactly the sky goes dark. Sunset was supposed to be 9:19

At 9:15. West of the bridge. Subtleness of pink was so tranquil.

And around 9:40, after sunset. The east of the bridge was like that. What a dramatic sky!

We started to walk to the river side trail. We encountered this friendly guy.

And very the end of the sunset. Right before it got dark the sky was burning. Around 10 pm.  Even experienced many summers of north west coast, I will always be taken my breath away by the amazing nature here like that. Too beautiful to get used to.

♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎

Well, now things we made lately are here.

Cushion covers. I took too long to finish them from design, got materials, embroidered, and sewed...but here are they finally! White knitted cushion was from IKEA but I also changed its original red tassels to blue ones.
Our house colour scheme is white, bit of natural wood and dark cast iron, and pale blue.

I asked my husband to make some buttons form a branch.

I decided to make a area rug too. I wonder when it could be done. lol

We found a pulley at a nearby antique shop, so pained its aluminum colour black, and hang some air plants like that. I also hand herbs form the ladder to make a country house mood.

And the same lavender as potpourris.

We got a simple silver framed LED light for our dark hall way. I put a wire decoration and paint white over.

And my office window treatment. I bought cheap white roller blind at IKEA and put a apple green cloth over it. My husband made a box to hide roller part and also as a decoration shelf with a left over piece of a crown moulding.

I also made a cushion cover for a office chair with apple green. Now my office is white and apple green/

Put a couple of thick wooden blocks as coffee tables at the both side of couches.

And the kitchen!! It is slowly but steadily being progressed. Can't wait!!
